About Billies Blackwood
Billies Blackwood is the online timber outlet for the Otway furniture maker and Victorian Forestry License holder, William Butler.
Harvesting Blackwood for his own fine furniture timber supply since 2016, Will is dedicated to producing high quality joinery timber with the most minimal ecological footprint in the native timber harvesting industry.
Operating solely in the Otway Ranges, Will strives to harvest the best timber from fallen Blackwood trees in conjunction with the Victorian government timber harvesting & safety authorities.
Offering fresh rough sawn and dressed kiln dried Blackwood and other specialty species, Billies Blackwood is the place to find unique furniture grade Otway timber that is not only beautiful in appearance, but also ecologically responsible in its collection and processing.
furniture maker
Operated by fine furniture maker, William Butler, Billies Blackwood is dedicated to considerate practices, certified sustainable harvesting and a high quality product.
With a degree in Industrial Design and six years harvesting Blackwood in the Otway Ranges, William Butler launched this online site with a goal in mind; to provide the furniture making industry with high quality Otway Timbers that have been ethically sourced and processed from beginning to the end.
To achieve this, Will carries out the harvesting, carting, machining, and grading of each board of timber available. With each timber piece handpicked and processed, the final product carries with it a personal narrative of its journey from the forest floor to the home of its end user.
Timber experience
William Butler has spent the past 10 years refining his experience and approach to the furniture making industry.
Between studying, training and operating his own business, Williams experience extends from studying and working as an Industrial designer in Melbourne, to teaching furniture making, cabinet making & joinery at Tafe, machining Blackwood for Maton Guitars Australia, Agricultural timber milling, Low impact harvesting and running a business as a custom fine furniture maker.
William is always looking to further his experience in the field and establish himself in the industry as a unique outlier in a field of work that is not without opposing argument and continuous environmental development.
